FAQ’s

Q: How do FOLLICS® treatments work?

A: In hereditary hair loss, a combination of heredity, hormones, and age causes a progressive shrinking, or miniaturization, of certain scalp follicles. This causes a shortening of the hair's growing cycle. Over time, as the active hair growth phase becomes shorter, the resting phase becomes longer. Eventually, there may be no growth at all. The exact mechanism of action for Minoxidil is uncertain. However, researchers believe that Minoxidil works in part by partially enlarging the hair follicles and reversing the miniaturization process. By enlarging miniaturized follicles, the growth phase of the hair cycle is prolonged, allowing the hair to become longer and thicker looking. And with more follicles in the growth phase at the same time, it is possible to see improved coverage of the scalp.

Q: Is it possible to use FOLLICS
® products while taking Propecia (oral Finasteride) simultaneously?

A: Yes, both products can be used together to intensify the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. For more information, please consult your healthcare professional.

Q: Do FOLLICS® treatments have any dangerous side effects?

A: In most cases, FOLLICS® treatments are well tolerated when used externally by men because absorption is topical, and therefore has minimal absorption into the blood. Studies show that the majority of users do not experience side effects. Due to its very high Minoxidil content, FR12, FR15 and FR16 are not recommended for people who have heart disease or take blood pressure lowering medications. Should undesirable effects occur, they are reversible immediately by discontinuing the application of FOLLICS® treatments. We recommend that you consult your doctor to determine if you are healthy enough to use this product.

Pregnant or nursing women should not use FR07, FR12, FR15 and FR16 due to high concentration of Minoxidil (and Finasteride for FR12 and FR16).

Q: I noticed my hair beginning to shed after starting the FOLLICS® treatment--does this mean the product is not working for me?

A: This is normal. In the beginning of the treatment, further hair loss can occur due to the activation of hair life cycle – Minoxidil and other ingredients in the treatments shorten “telogen” phase and quicken “anagen” phase. In androgenetic alopecia, the scalp goes into prolonged periods of “telogen” and “catagen” phases; therefore the hair cycle is accelerated and activated by using Minoxidil and other compounds.

With intensive treatments like FOLLICS® the anagen phase is induced quite rapidly. As this activation is designed to first reset the hair life-cycle before inducing anagen, shedding and further hair loss can happen in the first few weeks of treatment. Therefore, it is important to continue the treatment even during this initial period of shedding. It is estimated that roughly 20% of users can experience strong shedding when initiating a high-concentration Minoxidil therapy.

Nevertheless, in rare instances where shedding does not stop after 6 weeks of regular use, we recommend you pause the use of FOLLICS® treatments and consult your doctor as other issues may be affecting your hair loss.

Q: How do I know if I am a good candidate for FOLLICS® treatments?

A: FOLLICS® treatments are indicated for the treatment of baldness by addressing all the major known culprits of hair loss, both hereditary and environmental. FOLLICS® treatments are highly effective for most people, men and women. If you have concerns about your treatment, please consult your doctor.

Q: In cold conditions the lotion may crystallize.  How can I make it liquid again?

A: As a pharmaceutical product, please follow the directions on the bottle. (Store the product with the lid tightly closed at room temperature 20-25 degrees °C.) If the product becomes crystallized, place in a sunny or warm place for a few hours. You may also place the treatment bottle in hot water at 40 degrees °C; this is likely to reverse the crystallization process.

Q: Can greasy hair (seborrheic dermatitis) cause hair loss?

A: Greasy hair is not the direct cause of hair loss. However, it can accelerate hair loss in individuals who are already suffering from baldness or thinning hair. A greater amount of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is found in greasy scalps. Therefore it is important to eliminate a greasy scalp with daily cleansing using a high-quality shampoo.

Q: Is it possible to have itching or eczema from using FOLLICS® treatments?

A: Using FOLLICS® treatment will rarely cause eczema and other skin eruptions. In clinical studies, a very small percentage of these side effects have been reported. If you experience any of these symptoms, suspend the use of the treatment and consult your doctor.

Q: Do FOLLICS® treatments deliver the same effectiveness when drying hair with a hairdryer?

A: If the solution is massaged into the scalp, it will not affect the effectiveness of the treatment. Since the solution includes less alcohol than other existing products, evaporation of liquid would be slower than that of other products. Some users may prefer to blow dry their hair after applying the solution for better hair manageability.

Q: If I have hair implants, is it possible to use FOLLICS® Treatments to treat androgenetic alopecia?

A: Immediately after hair implants, special care is needed to avoid injuring the scalp, and the use of special shampoos and lotions is necessary. Your doctor will inform you when you can begin applying other products to your scalp. After this period of healing, FOLLICS® treatments can improve the quality of implanted hair and treat the alopecia of existing hair, since this hair can continue to fall despite the new implants around it.

Q: What is the shelf life of FOLLICS® treatments?

A: The shelf life of all FOLLICS® treatments is 2 years.

Q: Where can I buy FOLLICS® treatments?

A: All of FOLLICS® treatments are manufactured from start-to-finish in the United States and distributed globally. FOLLICS® treatments are sold by prescription only. For further details, please check with the regulations in your country or region.
